At long last, these shoemaker’s children have landed some new footwear!

We build web sites for clients.  We maintain web sites for clients.  We tweet for clients.  We blog for clients.

Unfortunately that sometimes means there’s precious little time left over to build a web site for LHC, to update the LHC web site, to get out a couple of tweets each week, or update the blog.

Thought on Writing: Mark Twain

Nobody describes good writing better than Mark Twain.

Twain skewers James Fenimore Cooper in “Fenimore Cooper’s Literary Offenses,” first published in the July 1895 North American Review.

After listing eleven large literary offenses committed by Fenimore Cooper, Twain suggests there are also smaller rules writers should also follow.  The author shall:

  • Say what he is proposing to say, not merely come near it.
  • Use the right word, not its second cousin.
  • Eschew surplusage.
  • Not omit necessary details.
  • Avoid slovenliness of form.
  • Use good grammar.
  • Employ a simple, straightforward style.
